🦷✨ Brushing Together for Healthy Smiles at Loobylou's! ✨🦷
We're so proud to share how amazing our little ones are becoming at taking care of their teeth! 😊 At Loobylou's Childcare, we follow the NHS Big Brush Club's supervised toothbrushing program using the dry toothbrushing technique, and the children are absolutely brilliant at it!
👉Why do we do supervised toothbrushing?
🤔Did you know that tooth decay affects 1 in 4 five-year-olds in England? That's why we've implemented this fantastic program to help give every child the best start for their oral health. The Big Brush Club program is designed specifically for early years settings and it's making such a difference!
By encouraging children to brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste once a day here (alongside brushing at home), we're helping to:
• Reduce the risk of tooth decay by 14%
• Build positive lifetime habits from a young age
• Support children from all backgrounds in maintaining good oral health
• Make toothbrushing fun and social!
How does our dry toothbrushing technique work?
🪥We follow the NHS guidelines:
1.We start with proper hand washing for hygiene
2.Children aged 3+ collect their own labeled toothbrush, help give the younger children their toothbrushes and share out the little mirrors.
3. We dispense a small pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste onto paper towels for each child. Children scrape up their toothpaste
4.We all brush together for 2 minutes - with a 2 minute timer or sometimes with the Big Brush Club tune playing!
5.We supervise to ensure proper technique and that children don't swallow toothpaste
6.Children wipe their mouths clean with their paper towels
The children are absolutely fantastic! 🌟
We're constantly amazed by how well the children have taken to this routine. They know exactly where their toothbrush is, they follow the steps independently, and they're so proud of their clean teeth! It's wonderful to see them developing these important self-care skills and understanding why looking after their teeth matters.
The children love the routine, they support each other, and they're becoming real experts at proper brushing technique. Some of our little ones even remind us when it's toothbrushing time! This program is part of our commitment to supporting every aspect of your child's development and wellbeing. We're so grateful to be able to offer this service and to see the positive impact it's having on our children's confidence and health habits.
Thank you to all our families for supporting this initiative - together we're helping our children develop healthy smiles that will last a lifetime!
